South East Asia Cruise Journal

Sharing my travel journal I completed on a cruise to South East Asia last year.

The journal is from Kaszazz.

Unfortunately it is no longer available. Such a shame, as it’s a really a great product. I loved that it came in a kit with all the accessories needed to complete the journal. I packed it along with my Tim Holtz tiny attacher, journal pens, tape runner and my Fuji Instax camera. The sticker pack and metal embellishments were from the cruise ship journal kit.

Firstly I love how much room there was to journal. I did find it difficult to keep it on 1 or 2 pages though, as I love to write.

When I travel I like to pick up keepsakes that are relevant to the place I am visiting. I collect currency, postcards, receipts, ticket stubs and embellishments.

I love my little instant camera. I can place the photo’s straight into my journal capturing a special moment or place. I also love to use my Dymo to journal the pictures. It adds some element and texture to the page.

I had to buy this postcard for obvious reasons. My husband’s name is Dave.

Some of the embellishments I used are from a store called Stroberi in Indonesia. They have fantastic hair clips and brooches. They had some that were film rolls, planes, luggage cases , drinks and popcorn. I just removed them from the clips or brooch. They retail for approx $1-$2 making them a cheap way to embellish the page.

Washi tape is a great way to attach items to your journal, if you don’t have glue, tape runner or a mini attacher, while adding decoration to the page.

Through out my journal, I have added a little doodling to fill up the white space.

Whenever I travel, I look out for postcards. They are cheap and a great way to document where you have been and showcases the main attractions of that city/country. I also like the keep entry tickets from attractions or places we have visited as a visual prompt for that days activities. Envelope pockets are a great way to keep souvenirs, pictures, maps or ticket stubs.

With this page, I have used some stickers to create the beginning of my journaling.

I also used an arrow brad to keep my brochure from opening and it works as an embellishment for my page.

I have used my ticket stub as a photo mat to add some colour to this page and it also reminds me of the bus tour we took on the day.

A great way to keep your pictures in place is to use these fabulous adhesive photo corners. I found mine in a discount store. They also create a nice detail to the picture.

With this page I used my washi tape to frame the photo’s. I found some Kaszazz beach rub-ons in my stash. They have hibiscus flowers on the sheet. This was perfect for this page, as this is the national flower of KL.

These pages don’t have a lot of photo’s on them as these were the days when we were at sea. This gave me more room to journal and I was able to use items from activities that we participated in on board the ship.

I really love this page in journal. I was able to take a photo from each place we visited and highlight the memory from that day.

To fill up the back of the journal , I placed our luggage tags, vouchers and other memorabilia into the pocket for reference.

I was able to journal and attach most of the items daily. I found this a great way to scrapbook while we were on the cruise and it was fresh in my memory. Having it already in kit form made it convenient to carry and use daily.

Once I was home, I then finished the journal off with some added embellishments, rub-ons, dymo lettering and photo’s.

I am really happy with the finished project and it’s really nice that I am able to have it sitting on the coffee table for friends and family to view and not half finished in my craft room along with the other UFO’s.

“A Life Without Dreams is like a Garden without Flowers”

Hello and welcome to my latest blog post.

Recently I was asked to showcase some Dusty Attic products in store, so that customers had some ideas on what the products could be used for and how they looked when altered with different mixed media.

This was a bit of a challenge but I am very happy with the end result.

 All the products used on this canvas can be found on the Dusty Attic website.

The beautiful flowers are from Made with Memories.

 I have used a mixture of  Dusty Attic paint to cover the base.

For some added texture  I have applied some gauze and added some script with a stencil and texture paste.

To create the wall , I separated the chipboard and used the bricks and wall panel.

To colour the bricks, I have used a mixture of red and brown, making some darker than others.

The mason jar made the perfect vase for my display of flowers.

I have painted the jar to reflect the flowers being in a vase of water.

This beautiful flower is made using a technique to separate the chipboard and layering the pieces to form the flower.

Paint in desired colour, glue with helmer 450 and then cut the post from a Kaisercraft Pearl brad

and adhere to centre of flower.

To create the quote, I have used the mini letters from Dusty Attic and I just lightly white washed them to blend with the rest of the canvas.

Turn a paper bag into a Gift Bag

Hi

Today I wanted to share with you a very quick , easy and simple project. How to turn a paper bag into a gift bag.

For this project you will need:

  • Paper Bag
  • Hole Punch
  • Scissors
  • Coloured/Decorative Twine

Instructions

Take your hole punch and punch 2 holes in the top of the bag.

Then take approx 40cms of twine and double over. Thread the twine through the hole and then knot on the end. Repeat the process for the other side. Be sure to double knot the ends to avoid the handle coming out.

You now have a little gift bag.

I pop a sticker on mine, so that my customers know where they purchased the item from. Alternatively you could stamp them or decorate them with patterned paper to use for gifts.

Welcome Again I hope this evening/day finds you well. I am sitting here rugged up as it’s Winter here in Australia and unfortunately my reverse cycle unit has gone on the blink, so no heating at the moment and I’m freezing. If I took a picture right now, it would not be very attractive but I’m sure you would all find it very amusing.

This blog post today is a little tutorial on a canvas that I recently had published in Scrapbooking Memories Magazine.

When I received an email from Vanessa to say they wou.ld like to put it in the magazine, I couldn’t believe it. I was so overwhelmed that they would think that it was magazine worthy, let alone a full page submission with a tutorial. It had always been a bit of a bucket list item to be published.

So lets get started.

You will need the following:

  • Canvas (any size)
  • Cardstock – White (to stamp wings)
  • Kaszazz Wing Stamp & Metal Charms
  • Tim Holtz Cogs & Metal Charms
  • Dusty Attic Chipboard & Paint
  • Kaisercraft Word Stickers & flowers
  • Twiddleybitz Chipboard
  • Dymo labeller
  • Acetate
  • Gauze
  • Gesso
  • StazOn ink
  • Ranger Perfect Medium & Embossing Powder
  • Tattered Angels Glimmer mist
  • Adirondack paint dabber – White
  • Alcohol Markers
  • Heat Gun
  • Helmar 450 Glue
  • Scrap Dots

Method:

1. Mix gesso with your chosen paint colours to create the base; brush this over your canvas. Paint chipboard vines with the leftover paint. Place gauze randomly on top of the wet paint. Set aside to dry or heat seat.

2. Stamp the wings onto some scrap white card stock. Using StazOn ink stamp the acetate with the wing stamp. Colour the acetate lightly with alcohol markers. Emboss a chipboard bodice with white embossing powder and then heat set. Wrap and affix gauze around the piece to create the skirt. Layer your embellishments randomly and use scrap dots to create height.

3. To finish off the canvas, use a white paint dabber to swipe over the embellishments (as seen in the pic to the right), canvas, flowers and chipboard to give a white wash effect. Lightly spray the canvas with Old Lace Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist. Create a quote with a Dymo labeller and word stickers.

Pitter Patter Baby Treasure Box

Hope this day finds you well.
I wanted to share with you one of my latest projects using Kaisercraft’s Pitter Patter papers.
I really enjoyed making this project and was very happy with the finished item.
I have used many materials and it took me a few hours to put it together.
 I started with 6×6″ chipboard squares to make the box.
I then covered each square using the Pitter Patter papers, alternating the patterns so each side was different.
I then used the Tim Holtz Distress Paint – Bundled Sage and made a light wash effect over the paper.
 I used pinecone ink to edge all the squares & colour the chipboard.

For the lid, I have used Dusty Attic Chipboard embellishments, flowers and leaves. Tim Holtz Filmstrip ribbon, mini staples and Decorative Knob. Kaisercraft Pitter Patter Collectables and paper. Some Kaszazz Washi Tape.

After layering the elements over the lid, I then gave it a spray with the Tattered Angels Glimmer mist.
I used some gauze to add a extra dimension to the design.
After I had glued the sides together , I used some washi tape to hold it secure and this added another element to the design
 On this side I added Dusty Attic Adore Pebble, gauze, Tim Holtz filmstrip ribbon,
Kaszazz washi and Feet embellishments, so I could stand the box.
This side I have used gauze, Kaisercraft Collectables, Dusty Attic Chipboard Embellishments.
I really love their small rose buds, hashtag words and view finder wheels.
 

With this side I used the Kaisercraft Collectables, Dusty Attic hashtag word, chicken wire, flowers and leaves, viewfinder wheel and washi tape. I placed gauze behind the word to add dimension and break up the chipboard elements.

With this side I used some left over Dusty Attic – String of Hearts chipboard to cover the left hand side. I used gauze under it to add some softness.
I used washi and the filmstrip ribbon on this side, then layered a sentiment piece over the top, placed a viewfinder wheel under the sentiment piece and then placed flowers and leaves on top to add extra dimension. I attached the paper elements with the Tim Holtz Tiny Attacher.
       

To finish off the project I sprayed all the pieces with Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist – Olive Vine.
I have not taken a photo of it but to attach the lid, I used some Butterfly Hinges from Kaszazz, so I am able to open the lid and place in little treasures.

    This was the end result, which I am very happy with.
I hope you have enjoyed looking at this project and find a little inspiration to think outside the box and challenge yourself, as this was really out of my comfort zone. It really helped me to just go with the creativity and don’t be so judgemental in my own work. I think it really is a beautiful piece that would take pride of place in any baby’s nursery.

Repurposed Stamp Block

Hi There

I completed this project a little while ago but I hadn’t put it on my blog, so I thought I would share it with you.
I was recently sorting my stamp collection and took all my stamps from my wood mounted blocks and turned them into cling back, so they can be used on acrylic blocks.
So I had these wood blocks left over and didn’t want to throw them out, but didn’t know what to do with them.
  I wanted to repurposed them in some way and this was the end result.
I cleaned the block to remove the sticky from it and then I covered the block in some travel themed washi tape, I then took some clock embellishments and glued them to the front of the block with glossy accents.
I then used some little glass bottles and stuck them to the top of the block, placed some photo pin holders into the cork tops and took a piece of printed paper with the word journey on it and rolled it up and placed inside the clear bottle, to give me a message in a bottle effect.


This has now been repurposed into a cute little photo holder.

Selfie’s Portrait Album

I wanted to share a little project that I completed last year.
It was inspired by an article that I seen in a scrapbook magazine.
When my husband and I are out at a function or on holiday, I like to take pictures of us (selfies). Most of these pictures where taken on our holiday to the United States in 2012.
This is the front cover of my Simple Stories Album. I randomly stamped images over the cover and used paper scraps from my stash.

  On this page I used a range of embellishments from my stash.

Chipboard stickers, clock, tag, stamps, washi tape and my Dymo for the journaling.
On this page I created the little flag banner using stickers from Simple Stories. I mounted them on thin chipboard and then used twine to embellish.
I am not fond of the pic on this page, as I took it at the wrong angle. Double chin alert!! With this page I used lots of cog and clock embellishments. The angel wings are from Kaszazz’s embellishment range. The tag is from a stationary supply shop. I found the calendar embellishments in Big W.
On this page, I stamped the background with a range of travel stamps I have in my collection. I love the frame ( looks like an old polaroid camera). The tag has some journaling on it. The bling is from Kaiser and I have used their flowers in the bottom corner to tie in with the floral headband I was wearing.
For the embellishments on this page I wanted to keep it simple. I used twine and the compass embellishment from Kaszazz. The twine was attached with the Tim Holtz tiny attacher. The button is Simple Stories. I also used the twine to highlight the month the photo was taken.
This is the back page of the album. It was given to my husband as a gift. I have used part of the Simple Stories paper for the journaling and washi tape for the background, along with some stamping. The letter stickers are from Kmart. Clock embellishment is Kaszazz.
I also wanted to give the album a little project life feel. I love that it comes with these pocket pages. Great for pictures and journaling. The compass embellishment is from Kaszazz.
Papers are Simple Stories.

The frame border on this page is a chipboard square. I covered it with striped washi tape. I have used washi tape for the background, added some stamps and used the calendar embellishment behind the frame. The angel wings are from Kaszazz.
This page has more use of cog embellishments. These are from Kaszazz. I have again stamped the background with travel stamps and used twine to attach the envelope embellishment.
With this page I used washi tape, Kaiser flowers, calendar embellishment and the photo frame. Simple Stories paper pad and stamps for the background.
With this page I have added some hessian. The brad’s are from Bo Bunny Zoology range. Chipboard film frame is from my stash.

On this page I have used the other half of the chipboard film strip. The cog embellishment is from Spotlight in their jewellery section. Paper clips & angel wings are from Kaszazz. The heart chipboard embellishment is from ScrapMatts. Papers Simple Stories.

The embellishment words on this page are from Teresa Collins world traveller range.

The clock and compass are from Kaszazz.

To finish off the pages, I doodled around the edges of the page with my Memento pen.
I used Versa Pinecone Ink to ink the edges of my pages and the stamping.
I also used Memento Black ink for some of the stamping.
This project took a whole weekend to complete at scrap camp but I was so happy with it, because it really took me out of my comfort zone. All the pages were designed spontaneously.
It sits pride of place on my coffee table.
